Join DUPA to access a range of resources and a fantastic community of enthusiasts. See below on what we do.
DUPA has a selection of digital and analogue camera equipment available for loan during term time. See the Equipment page to learn how to book any items you would like to lend.
Introductory classes take place on Wednesday evenings during term in the Arts Block and are taught by Classes Officer Gabriele Pierantoni. In the classes series you will learn everything you need to operate a camera, explore technical and artistic , as well as practical lessons in digital editing and portraiture. Feel free to bring your own camera along to the camera handling classes. Remember a pen and paper to take useful notes, and ask questions! Gabriele has a wealth of knowledge and experience to share.
DUPA runs several exhibitions during term. Our Christmas exhibition is an informal celebration of our members work and a chance to get together to celebrate the term gone by. At the end of Hilary term, we host our pinnacle event of the year in the form of the End of Year Exhibition. These events allow us to showcase the best of student photography, but also feature other elements of DUPA’s activities such as timelapse and photobooks. The exhibitions are a great way to get involved and share experiences with other members of the society.
Are you interested in travel? Are you interested in using your photography skills while you travel? DUPA has the trip that will pop the cap right off your lens! With two trips each year, one international and one national, DUPA gives its members the opportunity to experience and photograph the wonder and beauty of Europe and Ireland. Past trips have included Madrid (DUPadrid), Paris (DUParis), Oslo (DUPlo), Budapest (DUPApest), Prague (DUPrague), and Berlin (DUPerlin), as well as counties all over Ireland.
DUPA operates two black and white darkrooms on campus. One on the top floor of House 6 and another on the ground floor of the Atrium. The darkrooms are available for use by members throughout the term and are well-stocked. Chemicals are restocked weekly and some printing paper is provided. To gain access you should book a slot on our online booking platform at dupa.ie/darkrooms, then you can collect the key from the security desk at Front Arch. You will need to leave your DUPA membership card with the security attendant and show your student card to collect the key. The darkroom in House 6 also has a PC with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom installed, and a negative scanner.
DUPA regularly organizes walks for members to take photos. From strolls along sandy beaches to dusk walks around the docklands, there is a great variety of locations within easy reach and we’ll be sure to take you to lots of them this year. It’s a great opportunity to get out with other DUPA members, learn informally, and practice your photography. Share and learn together, that’s what we say!
Your membership card gives you access to a long list of great deals and discounts from our friends and sponsors. See here for a full list of deals.
