Membership

Join DUPA to access a wide range of resources and a vibrant community of photographers. See below for some of what we offer.

Equipment and Library

DUPA has a large selection of digital and analogue cameras, lenses, tripods, lighting, and other accessories available for loan during term time. We also run a photography library with books on technique, theory, and photo history.

See the Equipment and Library pages to learn how to book items.

Classes

Introductory and specialist classes take place during term, covering everything from the basics of operating a camera to technical, artistic, and editing skills. These sessions are open to all members regardless of experience level, and cameras are provided if you don’t have your own.

Keep an eye on our events calendar and weekly emails for class times and details.

Exhibitions

DUPA runs several exhibitions throughout the year. We begin with a Re-Exhibition during Freshers’ Week, showcasing highlights of members’ work from the past year to welcome new students into the society. Each term, we host two exhibitions, providing regular opportunities for members to display their photography in a public setting.

Our calendar concludes with the End of Year Exhibition, the pinnacle event of the year, held in a professional gallery space. These events not only showcase the best of student photography, but also feature other elements of DUPA’s activities such as timelapse projects and photobooks.

The exhibitions are a fantastic way to get involved, celebrate creativity, and share experiences with other members of the society.

Travel

Are you interested in travel? Are you interested in using your photography skills while you travel? DUPA has the trip that will pop the cap right off your lens! With two trips each year — one international and one national — DUPA gives its members the chance to experience and photograph the wonder and beauty of Ireland and Europe.

Past adventures have included Madrid (DUPadrid), Paris (DUParis), Oslo (DUPlo), Budapest (DUPApest), Prague (DUPrague), and Berlin (DUPerlin), as well as locations all across Ireland. Whether it’s cobbled streets, mountain peaks, or seaside sunsets, our trips are the perfect mix of photography, exploration, and good company.

Darkrooms

DUPA operates two black-and-white darkrooms on campus: one in House 6 and one in the Atrium. They are open to members throughout term and are fully equipped with enlargers, chemicals (restocked regularly), and printing paper.

The House 6 darkroom has an iMac workstation with an Epson V600 film scanner, making it easy to digitise your negatives. The Atrium darkroom and studio includes a studio Mac with an Epson V800 scanner, as well as the full Adobe Creative Suite — including Photoshop and Lightroom — for editing and post-production.

To access either darkroom, follow the latest procedures here.

Photowalks

We regularly organise photowalks to explore Dublin and beyond — from city streets and industrial docklands to forests, coasts, and countryside. These are relaxed outings where members can share tips, experiment with techniques, and learn from each other in an informal way.

Bonus

Your DUPA membership card also gives you access to a range of deals and discounts from our partners and sponsors. See here for a full list of deals.
