This text offers a new perspective on New York, the American metropolis. Using a vintage panoramic camera tilted at an angle of 90 degrees, Hamann spent nearly five years setting up shot after shot, often finding himself balanced precariously out on a window ledge, waiting for the perfect light conditions. His stark black and white compositions lend the photographs a dramatic, often dreamlike quality, and offer unique interpretations of some of the world’s most recognizable cityscapes.
